CBA Picnic June 28 2009

Post Translated in Simplified Chinese (简体中文)

Post translated in Traditional Chinese (繁體中文)

Hello, everyone! Wow! Thanks to everyone that came to our CBA picnic at Fort George Park on Sunday June 28th! It was a great turnout! Although the weather seemed to look gloomy and yes, there was a slight moment when the rain came down, many of you still came out to enjoy the BBQ and picnic and chat with old friends. I was very glad to see a lot of the people I haven’t seen in a long time and a lot of new faces. It’s always great to be able to “connect” with someone in person after conversing with them via email. So, I had a lot of that happen today and that’s great! I’m very pleased to see a few of the elderly CBA members attend as that’s my main focus for the picnic, to hopefully bring more people out and enjoy some time with friends and family. Although the turn out was more than I had expected, we still had enough food for everyone and thankfully, we didn’t have too much left over. Thanks to everyone who replied to let us know you were coming. That helps us a lot in determining the amount of food to allocate and purchase for the picnic. We had the usual: hamburger and hotdogs with fixin’s, deep fried chicken wings (thanks to Rose Lui and Karry Chow for taking the time to deep fry them for us! They’re great!), corn on the cob, cookies, chips, cheezies, pop and drinks, watermelons… oh, let’s just say, there’s a lot of food and yet, there’s not much left over in the end!

A BIG THANKS to Eva Ho and Henry Ho for bringing their BBQ stove, portable propane stove, plus all the necessary tools for a successful BBQ, Sarah Goodrick for supplying the plates, cups, utensils, paper towels, table cloths, and everything related! She certainly brought a lot of stuff and came prepared! Wow! A BIG THANKS to Cynthia Hong and family for getting all the chips, cookies, pop, watermelon, corn for us! She did a HUGE job in helping out! The success of this BBQ is due to your big help! Thanks! BIG THANKS to Trevor Ip and family for bringing along the BBQ and helping out with the cooking. Actually, special thanks to Tracy Peng, Sarah Goodrick, Eva Ho and others for helping with the cooking!

Some of the pictures taken of the picnic are now uploaded. Here’s a slideshow of the pics.

If you are interested in viewing the individual pictures, or any of the pictures in the CBA album, please log into photobucket with the following information.

CBA Picnic June 28 2009

Post Translated in Simplified Chinese (简体中文)

Post translated in Traditional Chinese (繁體中文)

Hello! We will be having our annual June picnic on Sunday June 28th, 2009 from 11:00am to 2:30pm.

Fort George Park map location
This year the picnic will be at Fort George Park and the cost is FREE! There will be plenty of hamburgers, hot dogs and other foods plus drinks available. All CBA members are invited! Don’t forget that the park has a children’s play area for the little ones and a water park for all ages plus an very beautiful park for other activities.

Attendance tally

To get a better idea of how many people will be attending, please take a moment to contact us via email at pgcba and indicate how many in your family will be attending. This will help us to avoid running out of food so that everyone will be able to enjoy it. Please take a moment to let us know. This way, we can ensure that everyone will be able to enjoy the food. Thanks!

Please note: We will need all replies (rvsp) by Sunday June 14 to ensure that we have enough food for everyone. Please ensure that you contact us before Sunday June 14th if you wish to come. Thanks!

With the warmer weather, this could be a wonderful opportunity to spend some time with other members and your family and catch up with what’s been happening. I am hoping that we’ll be able to see more of the elderly members of the CBA who otherwise may not be able to attend. Please spread word about this picnic to everyone in the community.

Rain or shine, we will be there! Since we have reserved the picnic covered shelter area (closest to the Exploration Place), even if it’s raining, we should be able to enjoy the barbeque. We will need some volunteers to help out. If you are able to volunteer and help out, please contact us or arrive around 10:30am or earlier to help with the set up! Thanks!

I hope to see you all there!

Post Translated in Simplified Chinese (简体中文)

Post translated in Traditional Chinese (繁體中文)

Hello, everyone! As some of you may know, the IMSS (Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society) held an Awards Ceremony Banquet and invited members of the community to attend. The Chinese Benevolent Association was invited and our Board Members: May Cheung, Sarah Goodrick, Eva Ho and Cynthia Hong attended the banquet.

We were quite surprised to discover that the Chinese Benevolent Association was awarded the IMSS Diversity Award for being an organization who has contributed to the promotion of multiculturalism and the fight against racism! Thank you, IMSS, especially Xiao Xue Liu for nominating us!

Of course, this award could not have been possible without the strong, dedicated and committed volunteers and members of the Chinese Benevolent Association that make up our organization! I would like to thank every member of the Chinese Benevolent Association for making this possible. Special thanks goes to members Eva Ho, Sarah Goodrick, Cynthia Hong, Teck Fu, Lily Chow plus many others (there are so many that I can’t list them all) for all their hard work! Thank you for your continued dedication to our organization! This is an award for all our members! Thank you!

Introducing the New Board of Executives

Post Translated in Simplified Chinese (简体中文)

Post translated in Traditional Chinese (繁體中文)

As some of you may already know, the Chinese Benevolent Association held its annual general meeting on Sunday March 1st.

I am sad to announce the departure of the following Board of Executives: Teck Beng Fu, Karry Chow, Yantl Wagar, and Sherman Nipp. We wish them all the best in their new endeavors and thank them for their past support and dedication to our Association.

The remaining Board of Executives were re-elected back on the Board. Please join me in welcoming a new addition to our Board of Executives, Rose Lui. Since all the Board of Executives declined on the position of President, we decided to have a draw for the President position.

Here are the current Board of Executives of the Chinese Benevolent Association:

May Cheung – President and Secretary
Eva Ho – Vice President
Trevor Ip – Treasurer
Sarah Goodrick – Board Executive
Cynthia Hong – Board Executive
Rose Lui – Board Executive

I hope that this will be an even better year and thank everyone for their strong support of this Association. It could not have been possible without all your support!

As the Association is run by volunteers, we do not have a physical office. Here’s our mailing and correspondence address:

Chinese Benevolent Association
1645 Third Avenue
Prince George, BC V2L 3G5

Please do not hesitate to contact the Board directly via email for any queries with regards to the Association. Since the majority of the Board of Executives may not be available during the day to answer phone calls, it may be best to contact us via email. I am normally able to call you back via Skype to your phone number during the day if you contact me via email .

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

A quick reminder that Ching Ming (Tomb Sweeping Day) (for more info on what Ching Ming is click here and also here) will be coming up on Saturday April 4th at 12:30pm at the Prince George Cemetary (Google map link). All members are invited to attend.

I hope to see you all soon!
