CBA High School Scholarship

The Chinese Benevolent Association of Prince George, a non-profit organization was established shortly before 1945 originally to protect the interests of Chinese people, particularly the new Chinese immigrants who did not belong to other Chinese organizations and needed assistance in any matter. Its mandate then was to provide a voice to the Chinese community for those who could not speak the local language. Over the years, the Association has changed its focus and the current Association now focuses on providing a cultural basis and gathering for the Chinese community by raising awareness, and to foster and perpetuate the Chinese culture and language.

Throughout the year, the Association invites the community and general public in observance of various Chinese holidays including the Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival and others. Its community of members work tirelessly to support ad help out at the various functions and annual food sales events for the Association’s fund raising. The operation of the society is fully dependent on the funds received from our annual food sales fund raising events and the generous support and help of our invaluable volunteers and members!

These volunteers and members have, in the past provided strong support for charity and other causes including the recent China Earthquake and Myanmar Cyclone Relief effort through donation collection for the Canadian Red Cross! The Association raised $5768.95 and $200 RMB towards the China Earthquake Relief Effort and $477.71 for the Myanmar Cyclone in May 2008. More info here. They were also very active in charity work for the China Flood Relief Effort in 1998 as well as many from the past. The Association has had a history of supporting various charity work from its humble beginnings in the early 1940s to today.

In April 2009, the Association was honoured with the Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society Diversity Award for being an organization who has contributed to the promotion of multiculturalism and the fight against racism! More info here.

These accomplishments could not have been possible without the dedication of its members and the Chinese community.

The focus of the Association remains raising awareness of the Chinese culture and provide a place for the Chinese community to share and expand the Chinese culture, through arts, language and other activities.
